After 25 years, Microsoft has announced that starting June 15, 2022 Internet Explorer will no longer be supported for some versions of Windows 10. It will give way to Microsoft Edge.

The benefits of Microsoft Edge

Better compatibility

Microsoft Edge supports both old and modern websites with Internet Explorer mode. So, whenever you come across an old site or application that requires Internet Explorer to open, you will be able to access it with this mode.

Microsoft Edge is also based on the Chromium project, the technology that equips most current browsers like Google Chrome's.

One browser for all your tasks

Previously, you had to use different browsers to perform different tasks. Some public sites or internal work applications could only work in Internet Explorer. Now you will be able to use Microsoft Edge. You will gain in productivity and efficiency!

New features

Microsoft Edge also provides new, more modern features. No more dozens of tabs that slow down your computer, Microsoft Edge offers you to use dormant tabs to free up resources. You can even move them to the side to make them more readable.

Then, discover the collections. They make it easier for you to gather and organize items you've saved as favorites.

It is also possible to configure different profiles in Microsoft Edge to distinguish your personal and business use of the browser.

Better security with Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge integrates with the Microsoft 365 Security suite. Thanks to this, this browser can be considered safer than Google Chrome for companies working in Windows 10. Microsoft Edge protects against phishing attacks and malware using Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. It also has Password Monitor, a tool that allows you to see if your personal credentials have been compromised.

How does this impact you?

The Internet Explorer 11 desktop app will be disabled on June 15, 2022; Users will be automatically redirected to Microsoft Edge when they try to access it.

If you arrive at a site that requires Internet Explorer to open, use Internet Explorer mode to access it. This mode will be available at least until 2029 so that companies have time to adapt to this change.

However, we recommend that you upgrade to Microsoft Edge before June 15, 2022. This will allow you to enjoy a faster, safer, and more modern browsing experience. Most devices already have this new browser. Search for "Microsoft Edge" in the search bar at the bottom of your screen. If your device doesn't have Microsoft Edge yet, you can download it here.
